Patchogue-Medford Welcomes New Teachers for 2008-2009
This year’s New Teacher Orientation began at 8:30am on August 26, 2008 and was held in the District Office Conference Room. Introductions were done by Mr. Michael Mostow, Superintendent of Schools and Paul Pecorale, PMCT President. Ms. Nancy Hancock, Asst. Superintendent of Human Resources discussed Mylearningplan.com, the Substitute Hotline, Online Certification and Benefits. Ms. Christine Finn, Asst. Superintendent for Elementary Education & Community Affairs, and Ms. Linda Taylor, Interim Asst. Superintendent for Secondary Education discussed Lesson Plans, Observations & Evaluations, Literacy Coaches and Communication. A presentation was made by Scott Fisher, Director of Technology, regarding Lotus Notes and E-schooldata. Ms. MaryAnn Ambrosini, Director of Special Education and Robin Solomon, Director of Pre-School Special Education also made presentations concerning the Introduction to Special Education. On Wednesday, August 27, 2008 Joseph Filippone, Director of Science, Libraries, and Technology Education spoke regarding “The First Days of School” . The PMCT also held their own orientation to discuss “Vote-Cope”, NYSUT Enrollment, Voter Registration Forms, the New Teachers Survey and 403b information. The new teachers were then introduced to their Teacher Mentors and sent to work with the mentors in their individual school buildings. On Thursday, August 28, 2008 the new teachers attended a NYSUT Classroom Management Workshop, continued working with the mentors and attended a luncheon sponsored by the PMCT in the High School Faculty Cafeteria.
